Mahomby Export is a grower and an exporter at once. We cultivate our own vanilla plots and coordinate 35 partner farming families in the Antalaha municipality. This mixed model sets us apart from most SAVA exporters, who only buy through the Sambava wholesale market.
Grower and exporter, both at once
Growing vanilla ourselves imposes the same long-term commitment as the one our partner families face — three years before the first harvest, several years before a vine reaches optimal yield. This shared discipline builds a relationship of trust, batch after batch, campaign after campaign.
Virembina & Nosy Be — Antalaha municipality
Our plots and partner families are located in two villages within the Antalaha municipality, SAVA region: Virembina inland, Nosy Be along the coastal strip. Two microclimates, one preparation workshop in Sambava. Every batch is traced from the village to the export crate.
Note: this Nosy Be is a small coastal village in the Antalaha area — not the tourist island in the north-west of Madagascar.
Why we pay more
- Price paid 5 to 8% above the Sambava market rate
- Payment within 7 days after weighing
- Multi-year commitments over 3 years with guaranteed volumes
This transparent commercial framework is not marketing. It is the operational reality that allows our partner families to invest, replant, train the next generation. On our side, it secures the annual quality of the batches we ship to Europe.
Fifty young women trained in pollination
Since 2020, Mahomby has trained around fifty young women from the villages in hand pollination — the precise gesture invented by Edmond Albius in 1841, still the only way to produce Bourbon vanilla. A profession that pays fairly, respects agricultural rhythms, and passes down from generation to generation.
Frequently asked questions

35 partner families in Virembina and Nosy Be, under multi-year commitments (3 years) with guaranteed volumes.
Is the price paid to farmers transparent?
Yes: 5 to 8% above the Sambava market rate, paid within 7 days after weighing. This transparency is written into our multi-year contracts.
